"Growing up on the US-Mexico border, I've always been immersed in a unique mix of U.S. pop culture and tradition," says Arenas. "This blend is at the heart of my work." His tile sculptures make up MONOLITH's iconographic design, which pays tribute to everything from ancient Aztec imagery to the classic Mexican TV series El Chapulin Colorado. Look closely and you'll find eagles, snakes, Dia de los Muertos sugar skulls and marigolds, luchadores, conchas (sweet breads), and so much more. Cacti are also a theme throughout - a symbol of resilience in harsh conditions. "Through my work, I aim to evoke pride, nostalgia, purpose, and celebration. I want to share the beauty of our identity and invite you to explore the dynamic world where cultures meet."
